Dalai Lama sails in St. Thomas

The Dalai Lama's three hour tour ends in St. Thomas. The work of one of LA's most beloved female street artist, Lydia Emily, capsizes the side of the sail ship. This is one of the most magnificent wheat paste placements I've seen.

Rick Genest Tattoo Cover-up

Amazing video of fashion model Rick Genest (aka Zombie Boy) having his incredible body tattoos covered. He his best know for his role in the Lady Gaga vide "Born this way" and as a fashion model for Mugler.

The make-up by the Dermablend team takes away his trademark tattoos on his body and face to make him look like he has flawless skin.

Robbie Conal Wall

I saw this awesome tribute wall to Robbie Conal on a recent trip to my printers. A great collection of Robbie's political posters.

Alec Monopoly

With the current banking situation and the Occupy Wall Street movement, Los Angeles' street artist Alec Monopoly's work becomes more relevant to our economic crisis.

Fist Pump!

Los Angeles street artist Homo Riot will be having a show at Hold Up Art in downtown. The opening is this Saturday, October 22.

From the press release:
Hold Up Art presents Fist Pump, a collection of new work from Los Angeles-based activist and street artist Homo Riot, whose highly charged and sometimes sexually explicit imagery, became part of the city’s social landscape in response to the 2008 passing of Proposition 8 (a measure on the state ballot that overturned the California Supreme Court's ruling that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry). Homo Riot's message started out as a “fuck you” to the supporters of Prop 8, but has morphed into something larger and more profound. Seen now as an emblem of pride and strength to the gay community, Homo Riot’s work has become a line of communication to young gays who feel they’ve been shunned by mainstream society and a call to action for silenced and closeted gays.
“The work in this show explores the dichotomy between the often hidden and dark realms of gay life and the simultaneous desire for visible exuberance,” says Homo Riot of Fist Pump. “In these pieces, the fusion of these disparate concepts leads to awkward explosions of ‘pride’ and naïve outbursts of youthful anger and rage.”We hope to see you there, and if you can't make it out, please stay tuned for more updates with photos and special information on art and limited editions from the event.

Opening Reception of FIST PUMP on October 22nd, 7pm - 11pm

I discovered this beautiful wheat paste sequence on the side of a gallery behind Orange 26 Bicycle shop on Heliotrope. I love the sequential use of wheat paste posters to create a Muybridge-esque photography effect.

LA Street Art, Sky's the Limit

Today at noon in Los Angeles, street art took life on a new canvas. Not the streets, but the sky. Planes made circles around LA today releasing puffs of smoke, making graffiti tags in the sky with clouds. The clouds spelled out some of the biggest names and brands in LA street art scene. Tributes went up for those past and surrent players like Saber, Seventh Letter Crew, Mad Society King, Juxtapoz, Upperplayground, and the advertising of Obey. Saber even threw up his Twitter handle.

Watch video below of street art in the sky of Los Angeles.
